State police say there is no imminent threat at the American Dream mall after reports of a bomb threat.
"The matter is still under investigation, but law enforcement has determined there is no imminent threat at American Dream at this time," Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted.
Customers and employees began reentering the megamall following an approximately one-hour evacuation, causing disruption to Black Friday shopping.
State police had issued a safety alert around 8:15 a.m., prompting Murphy to confirm the investigation into the threat. The alert advised all shoppers and employees to vacate the building using stairs instead of elevators.
The American Dream mall, ranked as the second-largest in America, faced this situation on one of the busiest shopping days. It's also an important day for football fans, with the Dolphins and Jets scheduled to play at MetLife Stadium later in the afternoon.
