Amazon will be opening a massive warehouse in Carteret this fall, and with it will come hundreds of jobs, the company says.
Starting Monday, the company will be recruiting to fill positions at its new "fulfillment center." The facility will need 500 employees to package everything customers buy online.
Amazon says that the potential jobs will not necessarily be "normal" warehouse jobs. The company says it will be offering wages that are 30 percent higher than an average retail position.
The positions will also include health benefits and tuition reimbursement up to 95 percent, the company says.
According to the website Homefacts, the city of Carteret is below the state unemployment average, at 5.1 percent. However, jobs in education, business and construction in Middlesex County and across the state are decreasing.
The U.S. Labor Department reports that in-state and nationwide warehouse jobs are on the rise, with 14,000 added in July.
When the warehouse opens in the fall, it will be the fourth fulfillment center in New Jersey. There are currently facilities in Avenel, Logan Township and Robbinsville.
