Honors engineering students at Northern Highlands High School in Allendale spent Thursday morning racing boats they built themselves.
The students spent several weeks designing and building the cardboard boats and then raced them across a local lake. The students dressed for the “regatta” and even had buglers to kick off the race. It was all an effort to show that engineering and education can be fun.
"Well the accomplishment is to actually make a pretty high-level engineering topic, make it fun, make it educational for them but also have fun while learning,” says teacher Albert Mugno.
This was the fifth year of the cardboard boat race.
