A Newark Code Enforcement officer is accused of soliciting bribes from a local business.
Attorney General Matt Platkin says Sonia Rogers ordered the closure of a store in September and threatened to fine the owner unless they gave her cash and free merchandise.
Rogers is charged with official misconduct, bribery, theft by extortion and soliciting or accepting any benefit to influence the performance of an official duty.
She faces five to 10 years in state prison if convicted.
