New Jersey immigration advocates mobilized when they believed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a charter flight of migrants to New Jersey.
But when the flight landed at Teterboro airport last Tuesday evening, there were only two crew members on board.
The executive director of the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice says most of the migrants DeSantis has ordered sent to so-called sanctuary states have open asylum claims.
“They’re either processed or in the midst of being processed for these asylum cases and they’re given these promises that if they were to board a plane or board a bus to a sanctuary city, that they can get anything from guaranteed jobs to guaranteed income,” says Amy Torres.
The Florida governor is vowing to send more plans and buses of migrants north to places like Martha’s Vineyard and New York City.
