(AP) - A 9-year-old boy is charged with the juvenile equivalent of aggravated manslaughter in the death of a toddler at a Woodbridge day care center last week.
Authorities say the older boy repeatedly hit the 11-month-old child in the head, causing multiple skull fractures.
The beating happened at a day care facility operating out of the home of Beverly Bryant.
The 64-year-old Bryant, who authorities say was not in the room when the injuries occurred, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was ordered to close the facility.
The toddler, Tahir Francis of Carteret, was taken to an Edison hospital last Thursday and died about six hours later.
Authorities have not named the 9-year-old. He was placed under house arrest after a court appearance Wednesday.
