For the fourth year in a row, Tackle Kids Cancer at the Children's Cancer Institute at Hackensack Meridian Health will serve as the official charity of the Northern Trust.
A 6-year-old New Jersey girl, who is also a cancer survivor, will serve as a flagbearer during the golf tournament. Violet Spiliotes Salicrup is a survivor of Wilms Tumor, a rare pediatric kidney cancer.
After going through surgery, radiation and 25 rounds of chemotherapy, she's now in remission and says she is ready to help others.
“I'm proud of her every day, she's taking on the role of wanting to be the face of childhood cancer and there's hundreds of faces of childhood cancer,” says mother Jaime Spiliotes. “She just wants to be one of them because she wants to spread awareness and I'm all about helping her with that.”
Violet will tend the flag during Saturday's third round.
The Northern Trust has generated nearly $50 million for New York and New Jersey charities since its first playing in 1967.
