Tenants at an East Orange apartment complex are rejoicing after repairs were made to an elevator that was broken for most than a month.
The passenger elevator at the 10-story complex located at 75 Prospect Street was out of service for five weeks.
Tenants who lived on the upper floors had two choices. They could either climb 20 flights of stairs or use the elevator in the opposite wing of the complex, walk across the roof and then walk down several flights of stairs.
Tenants who were older or had disabilities said the situation was a physical hardship. Some tenants told News 12 they planned to withhold rent until the elevator was fixed.
Lakewood-based management company Platinum Management says that the repairs were made due to supply chain issues. The parts arrived on Monday and repairs were made immediately.
