Five police officers were shot in Jersey City, and two of them are in critical condition Thursday, after a gunbattle that broke out when they approached a car connected to a robbery.
Officials say two suspects, Amanda Anderson and Hassan Shakur, were killed in the gunfight.
The critically injured officers are undergoing surgery at Jersey City Medical Center. Officials say one of the officers was shot in the face and the other was hit in the neck. Four of the officers involved in the gunbattle are Jersey City cops and the other is a Port Authority police officer who was assisting them.
Mayor Jerramiah Healy says the gunfight erupted on Reed Street near Bergen Avenue. He says the suspects ran into an apartment, and shotgun blasts shattered the door and wall.
