Five New Jersey veterans received vehicles under a nationwide program to provide veterans with transportation.
The veterans received the cars through a partnership of Progressive Insurance and the Recycled Rides program.
Nick Pizze, who runs the Progressive service center in South Plainfield, says that 115 vehicles were given to veterans across the country this year.
“It’s our way of giving back. It’s the best day of the year here for Progressive,” Pizze says.
Two New Jersey veterans received vehicles Thursday at the South Plainfield Center. Army veteran Andrew Holder received a refurbished Honda CRV and Army veteran James Jarrard received a refurbished Honda Accord.
Veterans often can’t afford their own vehicles to allow them to travel to appointments, jobs and classes. Pizze says that the program allows them more freedom.
“We find it important…because we wouldn’t have the freedoms we have today without [our veterans],” Pizze says.
This is the fifth year Progressive has taken part in the program.
