Firefighters battled a five-alarm fire in West New York Friday afternoon.
The fire started in a warehouse on Jackson Avenue that was being used by Nitin Enterprises, Inc. The building houses an inventory of clothing, jewelry and scarves. Fire crews believe the items in the warehouse added fuel to the fire.
The blaze ripped through the warehouse and quickly spread to four nearby homes. It also prompted an evacuation of homes in the area.
Crews expect to be on the scene throughout the evening. Meanwhile, the Red Cross is helping displaced families.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
