3-alarm fire destroys office building in Netcong
Fire crews knocked down a three-alarm fire in a Netcong office building Saturday—but not before the flames destroyed several businesses.
The flames broke out on Main Street near the intersection of Maple Avenue around 6:45 a.m.
Videos and photos from the scene showed flames and heavy smoke pouring from the building. Now only charred remains are left behind.
News 12 is told that the building became fully engulfed, and first responders from around Morris County worked for hours to battle the flames.
The building was home to at least 10 businesses, including a laundromat, bagel shop and law offices. It also contained an apartment that was home to a couple -- they are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
"I want to cry--I feel like we lost everything....," says Clifton Young, who lived upstairs and worked part-time at the laundromat. "All my important credit cards and my driver's license and stuff--that's all burned up and I can't do anything."
Other members of the community say the building has caught fire twice before.
No injuries have been reported at this time, emergency officials say. Gas to the area and other utilities have been shut off.
Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
Parts of Main Street in Netcong remain closed as of 5 p.m. as crews are working to clean up damage.
