Yonkers crews are making final preparations ahead of an incoming storm, as officials keep a close eye on the potential for strong winds and flooding.
The city’s Department of Public Works spent the past two days preparing, checking equipment, readying pumps and clearing catch basins.
Thomas Meier, commissioner of the Yonkers DPW, said sewer crews are expected to report around noon Saturday, when officials anticipate possible flash flooding.
Crews could remain on duty into early Sunday depending on rainfall.
While wind is a major concern, supervisors will also monitor flood-prone areas and respond if residents report rising water.
The city is also offering free sandbags to Yonkers residents at the recycling center. The center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Meier said a single line of sandbags across a driveway can help prevent water from entering.
