Ahead of Fairfield students returning to school next Tuesday, town officials are reminding drivers it's time to slow down.

The town's 20 mph school zone speed limit will be reinstated next week.

Officials say automated speed enforcement will resume at six Fairfield school zones during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up periods.

If a vehicle is traveling 11 mph or higher above the speed limit, the system will capture its license plate for review and potential citation.

The fine for a first time violation is $50 and subsequent violations are $75. Officials add all funds generated from the fines will benefit roadway safety improvements.
