Authorities have identified both the Millville man who was fatally shot and the law enforcement officer involved in a police shooting Thursday morning.

47-year-old Shaun Murphy of Millville was fatally shot by Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Sgt. John Borelli during an encounter inside a home on the 300 block of Hazel Boulevard, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

Police had responded to the home for a reported domestic disturbance. During the encounter inside the residence, Borelli fired his service weapon, striking Murphy, authorities said.

Murphy was later pronounced dead.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Authorities did not say who possessed the gun or provide additional details about what led to the shooting.
