Police identified the man at the center of a homicide investigation that took place in Bay Shore early Sunday morning.

Detectives say police officers were on patrol when they saw an unconscious man in the parking lot of the Long Island Rail Road station at 6 Railroad Plaza at 2:30 a.m.

The man identified as 34-year-old Yolandus Pratt, of Bay Shore, was a victim of violence, according to investigators.

Pratt was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Suffolk police launched the homicide investigation at the train station parking lot. Crime scene detectives searched the platform for evidence and dusted the railing for fingerprints.

Police had not said if anyone was in custody as of Sunday night.

Detectives urge anyone with information to call the Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392. They add that calls can also be made anonymously to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Scott Woodrick lives across the street. He said when he woke up this morning, the parking lot was flooded with officers.

He says police went through his security camera footage.

“They’re looking for them,” Woodrick said. “They’re looking for whoever did this… I think there might have been multiple people.”

“I am surprised,” said Leo Larkin, of Lynbrook, after getting off the train. “I'm surprised because this area has just gotten better and better. So it’s surprising to hear that some kind of violent crime may have happened here.”

The MTA said trains skipped the Bay Shore station in both directions on Sunday morning, but the station went back up and running.
