Baseball fans turned out at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater on a hot and humid evening ahead of the Somerset Patriots' game against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, despite the threat of storms later in the night.
Conditions were sticky as fans made their way through the gates before first pitch, with temperatures climbing above 90 degrees during what was described as the first dangerously hot and humid day of the season in New Jersey.
Many fans said the summer weather was simply part of the baseball experience.
"My thought is it's summer. We're at a baseball game. Summer is hot, so you just adjust and deal with it," said Burt Sutton, of Princeton.
The warm weather marked a sharp contrast from conditions earlier this year. In January, New Jersey received 11 inches of snow and experienced nine days during which temperatures remained below freezing.
Six months later, residents found themselves dealing with temperatures above 90 degrees as summerlike conditions settled across the state. Whether storms would impact the game remained uncertain as fans settled in for the evening.
