A Wallington man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses in connection with a stabbing that critically injured a 74-year-old man, Bergen County prosecutors said Monday.
Wallington police responded at about 10:51 a.m. Saturday, April 18, to a medical call for a person having trouble breathing at a home on Strong Street. Officers found the 74-year-old victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to his torso and leg, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities said he has since been upgraded to stable condition.
Officers also found a 42-year-old man outside with an apparent hand injury and blood on his clothing. He was later identified as Sean McAvinue of Wallington and was taken into custody before being transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators said McAvinue used multiple kitchen knives to stab the victim eight times in the head, torso and legs.
McAvinue was charged later that day with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was jailed pending a court appearance.
