Authorities are asking for the public’s help to identify a victim in a 22-year-old homicide case in Atlantic County.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, working with the FBI and Absecon police, said human remains were discovered Feb. 17, 2004 in a marshy area off U.S. Route 30 by New Jersey Department of Corrections workers conducting roadside cleanup.

The remains, found inside a laundry bag, were determined to belong to an adult male homicide victim.

The New Jersey State Police Office of Forensic Services created a clay facial reconstruction, but despite an extensive investigation, the victim was never identified.

Investigators believe the victim had been dead for at least two months before the remains were found.

The man was estimated to be 25 to 35 years old, with black hair, a prominent nose and overlapping front teeth, said police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor at 609-909-7666.
