The Passaic Valley Water Commission has resumed water flushing in Paterson following two major water main breaks.

The most recent water main break, a 42-inch, is located at North 1st Street and Arch Street.

Crews may be working for up to a week to replace 50 to 60 feet of pipe after the main broke Saturday.

That break cut service to thousands of people. This comes nearly three weeks after a massive water main break near Hinchliffe Stadium.

As for neighboring towns affected -- 18,000 customers in the Riverside section of Paterson and and in Fair Lawn were left without water.

In Haledon, school will be back in session next week. The school superintendent says bottled water will be provided for students. Water fountains will be closed -- and no tap water will be used to prepare cafeteria food while the boil water advisory is in place.

Since the pipes date back to well over a hundred years old, the commission believes it will take years to repair.
