A massive fire tore through the 100-year-old New Jersey Avenue School in Atlantic City, sending thick smoke into the air Friday evening.

Fire officials say crews battled flames for more than 15 hours as the fire spread across all three floors of the vacant building.

No one was inside the former school, which has been empty since 2012 after flooding from Superstorm Sandy left it unusable.

The site was scheduled for demolition, with plans to build a new administration building there.

Officials have not said if those plans will be delayed due to the fire.
