Friday marked World Drowning Prevention Day, so there's no better time to discuss water safety.

As the temperatures peak and people flock to the shore to cool off, it's important to remain responsible with children in and around the water.

Craig Doyle, aquatic coordinator of the YMCA Jersey Shore, discusses why it is important to look after your children.

"You could never be too careful," said Craig Doyle, aquatics coordinator at the YMCA of the Jersey Shore. "Flotation devices are always important for any age if you are not comfortable on the water, being in and around the water for those swimmers in PFD's personal floatation devices are not a substitute."

One could never be too careful when a child is in the water.

"Taking swimming lessons here at the YMCA is also very important. You could start at the age of 3 months, all the way up to adulthood. It's important to take swim lessons at any age," said Doyle.
