Utility, cleanup crews deal with aftermath of severe storm in Plainfield

The City of Plainfield remains in a state of emergency days after a severe storm left downed powerlines and uprooted trees – one of which fell on a car and killed two people.
PSE&G and Department of Public Works crews were still cleaning debris and working to get power back to affected customers. The effort will most likely last the rest of the weekend.
As of late Saturday afternoon, fewer than 5,000 PSE&G customers are without power. Affected customers were encouraged to pick up water and ice behind the Plainfield Police Department.

"As residents are actually pulling up...I'm getting the addresses and passing them along to PSE&G so we can get that done especially with the elderly – anyone that's on oxygen – they should let us know," Sgt. Khisha Bethea, the Plainfield office of Emergency Management coordinator.
The Plainfield Senior Center on East Front Street will remain open for those looking to stay cool, charge devices or grab a drink and a bite to eat until power is restored.
