Fairfield police are getting the word out about a new e-bike and e-scooter ordinance that will go into effect next month.
E-bikes and s-scooters are not allowed on sidewalks or in parks under the new ordinance. They are only allowed on the street.
Police Chief Anthony Manna says that parents have expressed concerns about their kids riding in the street – but he says he must enforce the law that officials passed.
“Parents need to talk to their children and tell them that this law is starting to be enforced before we do have to take action, like summonses,” Manna says. “We're directly appealing to the operators. We have sent emails out to all the schools.”
Manna says he is hoping for consistency on the issue. Local municipalities currently give different guidance on e-bikes and e-scooters.
