Anyone who has driven through the Lincoln Tunnel may have seen the elevated catwalk along the roadway.

In the 1950s and 1960s, police used to have a little car that went back and forth on the elevated track to patrol the tunnel. It has not been used in decades. But now, there is a plan to put robots in the tunnel to patrol.

Six students from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken were just given a $10,000 grant to come up with a plan.

The robots will go back and forth and allow the Port Authority to detect accidents and other emergencies. Student engineers are working on a prototype this spring.
