A small earthquake rattled the Gladstone area Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.

USGS says the 1.8-magnitude quake originated about 7 kilometers from Gladstone in Somerset County at a depth of about 8 kilometers. It struck at 8:23 a.m.

No damage was reported as a result of the small earthquake.

Friday's shaker was significantly smaller than the 4.8-magnitude quake that rattled much of New Jersey on April 5, 2024. With an epicenter in Tewksbury, the earthquake was followed by multiple aftershocks.

Earlier this year, a 2.4-magnitude earthquake rattled parts of North Jersey, with an epicenter just north of Paramus.
