A man who worked as a teacher and head girls basketball coach at Middletown High School North is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Justin McGhee, 35, was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Officials say that the alleged sexual acts began late last year with a student under the age of 18.

School Superintendent Jessica Alfon told News 12 that the district is aware of the allegations and that McGhee was placed on administrative leave.

“We will continue to support our students as needed and work closely with law enforcement throughout this process,” Alfon wrote in a statement.

McGhee was arrested on Jan. 28.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is urging anyone with information about this crime to call Detective David Sidorakis at 800-533-7443 or Detective Ricardo Cruz at 732-615-2120.
