The wintry weather on Friday impacted holiday travel, and is expected to continue for the rest of the weekend.

Robert Sinclair, Jr. with AAA Northeast, says traveling this weekend may be a little harder.

"This weekend is going to be particularly challenging because of the cold and the crowds,” he said.

Some flights at LaGuardia's Terminal A saw delays Friday evening after a rainy and cold day. Kareen Campbell and her husband made sure to get to the airport early.

"We try not to do the winter and the holidays, but we can't help it now. We have to,” she said.

The TSA line went out the door at Long Island MacArthur airport Friday. Phil Lagreca was visiting family in Deer Park and got to the airport as the line dissipated.

"My sister-in-law was like, 'Why do you leave so early?' [...] It's Friday, it's snowing. And I don't wanna be in the middle of it,” he said.

Traffic already started backing up on the LIE Friday afternoon as well. Mike Jessop, of Brooklyn, says slowdowns lasted from Brooklyn and well into Nassau County.

"Coming out of Brooklyn and Queens and Nassau County, a lot,” he said. "BQE, LIE, all the way until the end of Nassau County basically."

AAA says Sunday will be the busiest travel day. Try to leave before noon or after 8 p.m. to avoid the traffic. Also, remember the cold temperatures could impact a car’s tires and battery.

"If your battery is 3-5 years old, you've let it go dead a couple of times, you really need to have it checked before you hit the road,” said Sinclair.

Make sure to have some essentials like food and blankets in your car during the winter. AAA says the quietest travel days will be Christmas and New Year’s Day.
