A car crash left multiple people injured and one of the vehicles crashed into a wall at Arts High School in Newark.

The two-car collision happened on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard Wednesday morning, according to Newark police.

“All of a sudden, we see a lot of lights, and we were told there had been an accident," said Elmi Ventura, an art teacher at the school.

School was not in session, but teachers were on-site for a development day.

Witnesses say the crash was loud and could be heard at another school nearby.

“I was in my second-period class and then there was like a loud bang and so a bunch of sirens coming past, so we all stopped just to listen," said Laelle Stewart, a junior at St. Benedict's Preparatory School.

Newark police shut down the street for hours, leaving some teachers outside.

“I’m just waiting out here to make sure everything is OK at the scene, so I can go back into the building," said Ventura.

Officials told News12 that two women were struck in the crash. The pedestrians and two drivers were all transported to University Hospital for treatment. One pedestrian remains in critical condition, according to officials.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.
