The northern lights were quite visible on Thursday night and could be seen in areas all across New Jersey.

A good crowd of people lined the Interstate 80 scenic overlook in Allamuchy, Waren County waiting to see the lights. Preparation involved grabbing snacks, staying warm and setting up cameras. Then all that was left to do was wait for the sun to go down.

The sky began turning light pink around 7:15 p.m. Then, pillars of fuchsia, purple and red along with hues of green revealed themselves to the naked eye and were seen even brighter in photos.

For Owen Brown, catching the northern lights is a new hobby.

“Usually every storm is different. You can see green, purple, blue, pink, orange. Orange is the new color,” Brown told News 12.

He keeps track of them, sharing pictures and information on his social media accounts @NorternLightsNews. Brown says he expects another event in May.
