Resident burned in Bayonne house fire that displaced 9 people

One resident of the second floor was burned and taken to the hospital. A firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

Nine people were displaced Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at a home in Bayonne.

Smoke was seen billowing out of several windows when the fire erupted at 11:14 a.m. at 120 W. 44th St. Bayonne Fire Deputy Chief Bill Bartos said the fire started on the second floor of the two-family home. The exterior of a neighboring house was slightly damaged.

One resident of the second floor was burned and taken to the hospital. A firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

The Red Cross says it's assisting seven people in four families.

There’s no word yet on how the fire started, but fire officials believe it was accidental.
