Passaic man accused of using passenger to bypass ignition interlock before DWI arrest

A Paterson man was arrested after surrendering to police in connection to a homicide investigation last week in Paterson.

Passaic County prosecutors say Jimmy Mercedes, 39, was charged with first-degree murder for fatally shooting Daryle Robinson on May 5 near Broadway and East 24th Street.

Robinson was shot multiple times and was transported to the hospital. He died two days after the shooting.

Mercedes was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain person not to possess a weapon. He now awaits a pre-trial hearing.

First degree murder has a sentencing range of 30 years to life imprisonment. Second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second degree unlawful possession of a
weapon both have a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in prison with 42 months to be served before parole eligibility in accordance with the Graves Act. Second degree certain
person not to possess a weapon has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in prison
with five years to be served before parole eligibility.
