Seven people, including a baby and a toddler, were hospitalized after a NJ Transit bus veered off into a ditch during Tuesday's rush hour commute, police say.

Woodbridge Police Department Traffic Unit says the NJ Transit bus was driving east on Port Reading Avenue when it rear-ended an Acura that then rear-ended a transit van. The NJ Transit bus then fell down into an embankment.

Police say there were 17 people on the bus during the time of the accident, including the bus driver. The seven people who were taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries. A baby and a 3-year-old were among those being treated.

All passengers who were on board the bus are expected to be OK, police say.

Traffic had to be diverted for hours Tuesday evening. The Middlesex County Hazmat and OEM were on scene to check the pond nearby to make sure there was no contamination from the bus fuel.

The Woodbridge Police Department Traffic Unit is still investigating what led to the crash.
