A Gloucester County man is facing charges for allegedly trying to stab a UPS driver who would not allow him to ride in the truck.

Monroe Township police say they were initially called to the Madison Court Apartment building for a call about a woman who was assaulted. Police say when they arrived, the suspect – identified as Ernest Peterson – had left the area and had jumped into a UPS truck.

Police say that they found the truck a short time later after it had struck a curb and was stopped partially in the grass. Officials say officers found Peterson on top of the UPS driver, trying to stab the driver with a knife.

Officials say that Peterson demanded that the driver give him a ride to the front of the apartment complex, and then became irate when the driver refused.

Peterson faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault.

The UPS driver was treated for minor cuts.
