More than 70 lab mice at Seton Hall University had to be euthanized due to alleged neglect by a faculty member and lab staff.

Officials say multiple inspections of the lab last year found the mice were living in filthy conditions. After the issues still weren't addressed, the university took away the researchers' access to the lab and the mice were euthanized last June.

According to a university spokesperson, the faculty member and staff have been banned from working with animals for a year.
