Tuesday’s storm in addition to cold weather and the discontinued use of the Boeing 737 Max has led to many cancellations and delays at Newark Liberty International Airport.

United Airlines discovered loose hardware and connections on its fleet of 737 Max 9 planes. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded 171 Boeing aircraft, mostly operated by Alaska Airlines and United Airlines, pending inspections. This comes after the door plug on a brand-new plane came off soon after take-off.

The pilots of that Alaska Airlines flight from Portland, Oregon, managed to return the Max 9 plane safely to Portland International Airport. However, the consequences would have been far more serious had the incident occurred at cruising height a few minutes later.

As of Wednesday morning, over 50 flights have been canceled and more than 20 flights have been delayed at Newark. Most of the delayed and canceled flights are with United Airlines.

And due to a power loss, there is no AirTrain service Wednesday morning at Newark Liberty International Airport. Shuttle buses are available at terminals and stations.
