Belleville firefighters used a small boat to help rescue people trapped in floodwater Wednesday morning as parts of New Jersey were pounded by heavy rain and winds.

Officials say they located a 2014 Dodge Durango Wednesday morning with three people still inside.

Officials say they removed the three people and that the vehicle was towed. The water later receded, and the roadway was reopened.

Belleville saw several incidents during Wednesday’s storm, including two other vehicles that were flooded and towed on Main Street, a vehicle that spun out facing the wrong way, and a disabled vehicle on Route 21 that had to be pushed to the shoulder lane, according to officials.
