A new art exhibit in Morristown shows past summer scenes at the Jersey Shore.

Curator Michelle Graves and the team at the Morris Museum had summer on their minds when they put together the exhibit called "Sand And Sea."

"We live in Jersey, it's known for the Jersey Shore, why not do an exhibition on beach going and the history of beach going?" Graves says.

They dug deep into the museum's permanent collection to find not only art but other items that bring a bit of the beach to the gallery.

The exhibit includes some examples from the 1800s of early beach wear, which include wool dresses that used to be worn to the beach.

The familiar scenes when residents visit the beach are represented on the gallery walls with paintings of boats and crashing waves. In fact, a painting called "Sunbather" was the piece of art that got the idea rolling for the exhibit.

"That kind of historic sensation of going to the beach and what it feels like to be at the beach," Graves explains.
