Paterson police arrest 2 people in Facebook Marketplace robberies

Paterson police say that they have arrested the suspects who robbed two people in separate incidents involving Facebook Marketplace scams.
They say that the incidents happened on July 23 and July 25 and that both instances involved victims being lured to the scene to purchase a car being sold on the website.
Police say that one of the suspects came out holding a gun. They say that in the first incident, the suspect got away with $3,500 from the victim. In the second incident, the suspect left empty-handed.
Police have charged Tajmeir Crawford with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal attempted robbery. He was also charged with two counts of employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime. A juvenile male was also arrested. That person’s name was not released due to his age.
Police are warning the public to use caution when attempting to buy items through online platforms.
They have offered the following safety tips.
• Bring someone with you.
• Make transactions in public areas during the day.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Pay using an app like Venmo or Cash App instead of using physical currency.
• If something sounds too good to be true, it often is.
