Some of the hottest temperatures of the summer are settling in for New Jersey just as Roselle Park is kicking off its community cool off days.

The event allows kids to run through showers of water, while firefighters perform water pump and hose drills. It was also a chance for the town to flush out its hydrant system.

"Right now, we have these huge waves and then we have tropical storms like last week. We had 4 inches [of rain] in 45 minutes. That's not what we are set up for, so it's a lot about cleaning up, getting ready for the storm and making sure our systems are resilient,” says Roselle Park Mayor Joe Signorello.

News 12 was live as the hoses opened up dowsing everyone below.

Additional community cooldown events are scheduled for July 18 and 25.
