Students create memorial for Lawrence High School senior killed in crash

Students at Lawrence High School are mourning the death of a student killed in a crash Thursday afternoon.
The teens have been creating a memorial to honor Daijah McKithen, 18, who was set to graduate in just a few weeks.
McKithen died after her sedan collided with a dump truck on Route 1. Both vehicles then crashed into a gas station.
Lawrence Township Police Chief Chris Longo says that the crash was caused by an “improper left turn.”
School Superintendent Dr. Ross Kasum wrote in a statement, “This tragic event has left us all deeply saddened and our thoughts and condolences go out to Daijahʼs family and friends during this difficult time. Many students and staff will be affected by this news.”
Many students were outside the high school on Friday leaving notes and flowers to remember their friend.
“Everybody liked her, that’s why there are so many notes and messages on the parking spot. Throughout the school day dozens of kids at a time, coming to write a note,” says student Chris Campbell.
The school is offering counselors for any students who need to talk.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the McKithen family to help cover expenses.
The driver of the dump truck was treated for minor injuries and is expected to be OK. No charges are expected to be filed.
