Officers in two New Jersey police departments are trying out body cameras before they're rolled out to the entire force.
Hamilton officials said Thursday their department has begun testing three models of cameras on six officers. Chief James Collins says they're looking to outfit officers on the street with body cameras during the first half of 2016.
The department budgeted $143,000 for the cameras this year.
Mayor Kelly Yaede says they believe the technology will help build cooperation between officers and residents.
In Trenton, police officials tell The Trentonian that officers have already tested two devices and a third company's technology will be vetted next month. Police Director Ernest Parrey Jr. says he hasn't set a launch date for the program.
