People flock to community pools as the summer heats up, but two Montclair community pools remain closed this summer.
Those pools are the ones located near Essex and Nishuane parks.
The contractor told the Montclair Town Council that the pools could stay open, but the pools remain closed.
Town officials and residents are upset by this situation.
"If you think about who uses public pools the most, you know, the wealthy Montclair folks go to private clubs and pools. A lot of them have their own pools. So, when you talk about taking away a community pool, I mean you're taking away a community pool that impacts the people who need it the most in the middle of a hot summer,” says Council Member Peter Yacobellis. “It’s very frustrating to me."
Yacobellis says he hopes the renovations will be completed by August so that the pools can open for at least part of the summer.
