A fire in Bayonne sent one resident and two firefighters to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

The Bayonne fire chief said the fire started on the first floor of a home on West 22nd Street and spread to the attic.

Smoke was seen shooting out of a top-floor window, and the side of the house was left charred.

The conditions of the injured are unknown at this time.

Firefighters were able to save several cats from the fire. Bayonne emergency management officials say a cat and a litter of kittens were rescued from the basement along with another a cat found on the second floor.

There is no word yet on what started the fire.

The Red Cross is helping six people displaced by the fire.
