A Belleville officer shot and killed a suspect Thursday in the midst of a pursuit that ended in Newark.
Police say officers were chasing three suspects who tried to break into a car. They say the vehicle then struck Officer Robert Kane, who shot suspect Edwin Munoz in the head.
The chase ended when the vehicle hit a tree.
According to police, one suspect jumped out of the car on Herbert Place and got away. Another suspect, Japhet Lopez, was arrested trying to run from the crash.
Kane suffered arm, shoulder, leg and back injuries, but is stable.
