A fast-moving, two-alarm fire broke out in an apartment complex in Lakewood, leaving two adults and a young child seriously burned and damaging several units.
The fire began around 1 a.m. at the High Point Condominiums on Prospect Street.
According to officials, the man, woman, and child drove to a hospital before firefighters arrived and airlifted them to a burn center.
Their names and further details on their conditions have not been disclosed.
Officials say five police officers were also injured in the fire, suffering smoke inhalation while trying to make sure all residents had been evacuated.
Out of the 16 units, eight were severely damaged.
Sixty firefighters were on scene, and it took them over an hour to get the fire under control.

Residents say most people seemed to have escaped the fire on their own.

"Looked like it was a black fog," says resident Angel Valle. "Couldn't see nothing, the roof was coming down, siding down. Dad woke me up, we started hearing bangs and screams. The fire just ate the whole roof. Glad we made it out in time."
Over 50 residents were displaced by the fire.
All were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
