Authorities: No indication of plane crash in Barnegat despite receiving distress signal
Authorities in Ocean County say there are no indications of a plane crash near Barnegat despite authorities picking up a distress signal.
Barnegat police say that the Stafford Township police dispatch took a report from Joint Base McGuire stating they received a single Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal from western Barnegat.
McGuire officials checked in with Atlantic City Airport but found there was no ELT signal detected.
Emergency vehicles were dispatched to the area of the signal, including off-road vehicles, helicopters and drones. But police say there was no evidence found of an aircraft in distress. Officials also say that there have been no reports of a missing or overdue plane.
They say the source of the signal is not currently known and that an investigation is underway.
