New Jersey has been season a recent bout of unseasonable weather and some real estate experts say that it could impact the summer rental season at the Jersey Shore.
Business owners say that they are patiently awaiting the summer season.
“The spring in New Jersey is never nice, weather-wise,” says shop owner James Boekholt. “But all of a sudden it will break and it will be super-hot and that’s what drives the seashore.”
The managers of several hotels across the Jersey Shore say that with the recent rainy weather, many people have not been checking in for vacations.
Some real estate agents say all of the rain this spring has led to a delayed booking season for weekly and monthly home rentals.
“In some cases, the bad weather has people inside browsing websites and homes,” says real estate agent James Ward. “Unfortunately they can trend to other areas. We may lose them whereas if they came down here they would be leaving deposits on rental houses."
Ward says that it has been a slow spring and winter for home rentals. He says that there are still a lot of homes available and urges people to come to the Jersey Shore to see what’s available.
Other agents say that more homes have entered the market because of new construction and completed Superstorm Sandy renovations
