Prosecutor: Family killed in 'suspicious' Long Branch fire
Authorities say a house fire in Monmouth County that killed a couple and their two children appears to have been intentionally set.
Long Branch police say the fire was reported late Tuesday night at a home on Joline Avenue. Authorities say it could be a murder-suicide.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office identified the deceased as Linden "Shane" Beharry, 35; Amanda Morris, 29; and their two children, Brian, 4, and Brandon, 7.
First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc LeMieux says the victims showed signs of injuries unrelated to the fire. All were reportedly alive when they were taken to Monmouth Medical Center, but none of the four survived. An autopsy will be performed.
Linden Beharry worked for the city's Public Works Department for the last 16 years.
Prosecutors say the fire appears to have started in multiple sections of the home. The outside of the home shows little fire damage and what damage is visible is confined to the second floor.
Neighbors saw the family outside Tuesday night having a barbecue, and they say that everyone seemed happy.
Firefighters from Long Branch and surrounding communities responded.
