The former coach of a pair of American Olympic ice dancers received a certificate of recognition Monday in honor of her accomplishments both on and off the ice.
U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Famer Slavka Button trained Olympic sibling duo Maia and Alex Shibutani early on in their career.
“The Shib-Sibs” are two-time U.S. National Champions and won a bronze medal in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal presented the certificate at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink in Greenwich, saying that Maia and Alex Shibutani wouldn't likely be on the ice today if it weren't for Button's perseverance, patience and leadership.
Button is also well known for coaching five-time U.S. Champion Janet Lynn throughout her entire competitive career.
Button says as a coach, she's not used to being in the limelight but is honored to have received such recognition.
